So much to see and do!
|
Skiathos, the most cosmopolitan island in the Northern Sporades, is truly a paradise on earth, with lush pine forests and crystal-clear azure waters. The island is picturesque, unspoilt and blessed with more than 60 beautifully crystal clear waters and beaches. The most famous is Koukounaries, which is considered as the third most beautiful beach in the Mediterranean. When you add in its bustling nightlife, it is only natural that the island attracts thousands of young visitors every year!
Whether you want to stay away from the crowds or dance until you drop, Skiathos with its upbeat night life, is a real treat for visitors and especially for young people seeking the freedom to party and listen to their favourite music! The pedestrian street by the Old Harbour is the ultimate hotspot for entertainment!
Buzzing bars and clubs keep alive through the night and until the early morning! The party continues in the area of Ammoudia where entertainment addicts celebrate in big open air clubs! Colourful cultural events, concerts and art exhibitions held throughout the summer months will add a special touch to your holidays on the island!
Getting around on Skiathos is so easy. There is one main bus route with 27 stops that takes you down the south coast of the island from Skiathos Town to Koukounaries beach. So go ahead and explore the island!
Did you know? Skiathos has the shortest runway in Greece at just over 1600m. As such, the planes come in very low over the harbour, where you can stand literally metres under landing aircraft! A great experience even if you're not a plane spotter!
Dog lovers will love the Skiathos Dog Shelter within easy reach of most resorts. Here you can walk a dog in the mountains and take in the amazing views.

Beautiful beaches and tasty food
|
The island has over 60 superb beaches, among which Koukounariés or Golden Sand in the southwestern part of the island stands out. Koukounariés beach is also famous for its lush pine forest, whose needles “touch” the water offering unique natural shade and Strofilia, a rare wetland nestling amidst the pine forest, which has been declared a protected area due to its enormous ecological value.
There are also plenty of tavernas, beach bars and lively cafes and bars. Megali Ammos, on the road to Koukounaries and Ahladies, is a popular beach with crystal clear waters and picture-perfect tavernas by the sea.
Banana (or Krassa Bay) is a wonderful beach surrounded by pine trees that attracts young people thanks to its water sports facilities and the frenetic parties that take place in its cafes and bars all day and all night!
Banana’s sister beach, Small Banana, next to it, is ideal if you want to avoid the crowds or if you are looking for some peace and seclusion. It is famous for its clear blue waters and its pine trees. Those who want to get away from the crowds should also check out the western part of the island: Mandráki, Eliá, Agkistros and Small and Big Asélinos are all ideal choices to escape the crowds.
Lalária, on the northeastern part of the island, is the kind of beach you find once in a lifetime. Impressive white rock formations; small round pebbles (which is what lalaria means in Greek), beautifully clean waters and the “hollow rock” standing imposingly on the beach provide a beautiful natural backdrop that will take your breath away. Note: you can only reach the beach by boat departing, weather permitting, from the port of Skiáthos.
When it comes to food, Skiathos really does have it all! From the famous 'Windmill Restaurant with amazing views over Skiathos town, which serves up some of the most amazing food, to the locals and celebrities favourite, 'No Name Pita ' fast food located in the centre of Skiathos Town. This place has been a favourite of big name visitors for years, and serves possibly one of the best Gyros Pita's in Greece! Don't just take our word for it.
While visiting the island’s large choice of restaurants, be sure to sample the various delicious traditional dishes, and take home some of the excellent local products such as island honey, spices, the traditional sweets “amigdalota” and “chaimalia”, local olive oil and wine.
Further down the island in the resort of Troulos you will find a spattering or restaurants and tavernas that are well worth the visit. Check out 'Salt and Pepper' where some of the most amazing steaks and souvlakis can be found.
Yamas!
